CELL ADORE FILM FEST - Out on a Limb

James Danns’ documentary Out on a Limb follows three paraplegic men (Dan, Geoff and Isaac), as they hit the slopes of the Swiss alps and show that anyone can do anything, regardless of ability.

The documentary is told through ‘talking head’ format.  Each man speaks in-depth on different topics that pertain to all three of them Geoff discusses the psychological aspect of being disabled and the transition he had to go through. Isaac discusses his desire to not be viewed as an inspiration solely because of the severity of his disability. Dan discusses why he desires to keep going back out time and time again.

A documentary about skiing wouldn’t be complete without footage of the event and this doesn’t disappoint. While the skiing might not be the most exhilarating footage – mostly due to the GoPro angle that has come to dominate action sports – the sight of the three men flying down a mountain is a touching one, only reinforced by the interviews they give, often juxtaposed with the footage.

Out on a Limb is a short, inspiring and delightful look at three men who refuse to allow their disabilities to prevent them from experiencing the world.

I've been a cinephile since I popped out my mom. I was always that kid who knew about the newest movies and spent much of their time watching them. I knew I wanted to be apart of the industry when I saw grindhouse at age 12 and I haven't looked back since.
