The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 159 (Skyjacked)

The Uncut Gems Podcast

The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.

In this episode of the show we are getting jacked in the sky as we are talking Skyjacked to kick off our February theme of Terror in the Sky (or T-air-or?). Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about the ripples that Airport made in 1970, how the big studio heads grappled with the advent of The New Hollywood and how this movie maybe belongs in the 60s more than in the 70s. We also talk Charlton Heston's intimidating kissing regimen, airport security, the movie's many outdated proclivities and whether on some level it was maybe a forebearer of the post-Vietnam conversation that materialized towards the end of the decade.
